Little Lemur Lost
Off the coast of Africa, there lies a unique island where separation from the other continents has facilitated a speciation of primates to fill a large and varied amount of biological niches on the island. Though many species have been hunted to extinction or their habitats lost to civilization, there are still over 70 different kinds of lemurs present on Madagascar. These species are only found in the wild on Madagascar. Known as a bio diversity"hotspot" by the Conservation International group, the island of Madagascar is considered one of the most important locations in preserving primate species.
The purpose of this web site is to educate and bring awareness to the common student of life about the perils facing lemurs. As well as showing examples of lemurs in captivity and describing their natural environments. The hope is that the reader will learn what conflicts common-day lemurs faced and perhaps will be energized to do their part to help conserve the many species of lemurs.
